Adventure Race Northern Illinois

Adventure seekers and racers - We have secured permits and are set for our annual adventure race. On August 2, 2025, we will be hosting a 4-hour and 8-hour adventure race. Our 4-hour race will be designed for the beginner racer, while the 8-hour race will provide more of a challenge with route choices and navigation. Get it Under Control will encompass disciplines that involve biking, on foot, and CREEKTEERING. We want racers to have plenty of time on foot, so we will include multiple orienteering sections with a bit of biking. We will not have paddling this year, which will allow racers more time on the map and navigating the rivers and forest preserves around the Rockford area. We have been putting on adventure races for a number of years and have experience in course design and layout, along with ensuring an organized, professionally run event where participants enjoy the adventure. Registration fees will include our traditional race patch, swag, post-race meal, insurance, permits, along with maps for every racer.

One thing we do that sets us apart from other adventure races is send out maps early during race week so teams can start to plan and prepare their routes and choices. We also provide maps for every racer so all participants can take a crack at their navigational skills if they decide to. If you have ever wanted to try out adventure racing, this is the perfect race to jump in and get your feet wet (literally, you will be wet a lot during this race).

4-Hour Race - This course is designed for the beginner racer. There will be a short bike section (any type of bike is allowed) with multiple orienteering areas. Orienteering will be pretty straightforward for this race but will include a few challenging locations to reward the top-level racers in this division.

8-Hour Race - This race will be more of a challenge with multiple biking sections, which will include single-track riding. Racers are required to use a mountain bike for this race. We will also include numerous orienteering sections, which will take you in and out of the rivers of Northern Illinois. A good majority of this race will be on foot, so expect multiple styles of maps and a few surprises along the way.
